Foumban, Cameroon, 2006

A boy and his knife - somewhere outside Foumban, Cameroon. We met this boy during a driving break. Curious about our Land Cruiser, he was friendly and full of questions. After chatting a while I asked to take his picture and he eagerly agreed. Interestingly, every time I raised my camera his disposition shifted. He became serious. Almost threatening. Dressed in an olive green suit with arms tightly crossed and knife clutched by his side, he exuded African dictator.  It's the image he wanted to project. Yet, it's far from the light hearted kid we met on the side of the road.
