Lone Acacia
Deadvlei, Namibia, 2007
Deadvlei is otherworldly - a white clay plan, backed by orange dunes, and cast against a brilliant blue sky that's home to the blackened remains of trees that died over 600 years ago.
Since seeing a photo of Deadvlei years ago, I wanted a turn at photographing its ghostly forest. My chance came in 2007. Excited, I planned the composition, gear, camera settings, and time-of-day carefully and executed to plan.
The result? A photo I like but don't love. The photo shown is one I snapped on my way back to our car. It's the one I like most.
