A photo of Piazza Duomo on Isola Ortigia in Syracuse, Sicily. Isola Ortigia's an easy place to get lost. A small island criss-crossed by narrow streets dotted with cafes, serving up Sicilian wines, olives, Arancini (fried rice balls), cannolis, seafood, and sandwiches. Fratelli Burgio does a particularly good filuneddu (pecorino cheese & caponata) that's simple but delicious. No doubt our stay in Isola Ortigia is at least partially to blame for our weight gain while in Italy.
