Bucket List

Reflecting back on our travels, road trips frequent our memories. In college, an obsession with skiing spawned numerous road trips from the east coast to Summit County, Colorado. A marathon 3,000 km drive we did non-stop in 28 hours. In the years since, our passion for road trips has only grown stronger and these days our travels include everything from weekend motorcycle rides up California's Pacific Coast Highway to multi-year trans-continental overland (4WD) journeys.

What follows is our top 50 road trips. We've included a broad collection of trips that range from scenic coastal drives and exhilarating mountain passes to full-on beyond-the-beaten-path expeditions. Some, like Chapman's Peak Drive in South Africa, are simple day trips easily done in a rental car. Others, like Romania's famed Transfagarasan, are true driver's roads screaming to be done in a high-performance sports car. And then there are the roads that demand an expedition outfitted go-anywhere 4WD or adventure bike. Challenging drives like Gabon's 'Road to Gamba' - an epic slog through sand, water, and rainforest to 'Africa's Last Eden.'
